Maintenance Drugs
Maintenance drugs are those you take regularly for a chronic condition (i.e., drugs to control blood pressure or cholesterol). All beneficiaries must refill certain maintenance drugs through home delivery or at military pharmacies. This does not apply to active duty service members.
Search the List of Maintenance Drugs to see if you have a prescription you should have transferred to be filled here at Rodriguez Army Health Clinic or via home delivery.
Transferring Prescriptions
If you have prescriptions at a TRICARE network pharmacy, you may transfer your prescriptions to our military pharmacy. Call the Express Scripts Member Choice center at 877-882-3335 to learn more about prescription transfers.
Basic Core Formulary
All military pharmacies have a Basic Core Formulary. The Basic Core Formulary is a list of drugs that are available at all full-service military pharmacies. Call us at 787-496-2789 to see if your drug is available or use our Basic Core Formulary Search Tool.
Basic Core Formulary Search Tool
Use the Basic Core Formulary Search Tool to see if your drug is available at your military pharmacy. A search can tell you:
- Formulary status (generic drug, brand-name drug, non-formulary drug, non-covered drug)
- Alternative drugs
To start your search, you’ll need to enter the brand or generic name of the drug.
Filling Prescriptions
Pharmacy offers its services to all beneficiaries active duty service members and their families, retired service members and their families.
Patient’s military ID card is required to pick up a prescription.
We offer the following services:
New Prescriptions
If your doctor is located at our facility:
- Your doctor can send it to the pharmacy electronically
- You can turn in a paper prescription at the pharmacy
If your doctor is a civilian TRICARE-authorized provider, call our pharmacy at 787-496-2783 or check the Basic Core Formulary Search Tool to see if your drug is available.
- If yes:
- Electronic prescriptions (eRx) submitted by providers outside Rodriguez Army Health Clinic. Providers choose DOD Ft Buchanan ePHCY to send an eRX.
- Bring your paper prescription here to be filled
- If no:
Fill your prescription using home delivery or at a network pharmacy
Refills
It’s easy to refill your prescription at Rodriguez Army Health Clinic.
If you’re a registered user on the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, you may be able to order refills online. If not, call our Pharmacy at 787-496-2783 to complete your refill.
Prescription Pickup
You can wait for your prescription to be filled, or drop off and pick it up later.
Other Pharmacy Options
As a TRICARE beneficiary, you have other pharmacy options:
- You can use the TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery to have prescriptions sent to your home. This is the least expensive way to fill prescriptions after filling it here. Note the home delivery option is limited in overseas locations.
- If you need a prescription filled after hours or when traveling, use a TRICARE network pharmacy.
Prescription Costs
While there is no costs for prescriptions here at Rodriguez Army Health Clinic, there are costs for filling prescriptions via home delivery or at network pharmacies for all non-active duty beneficiaries.

Active duty service members have a $0 copayment for covered drugs at any pharmacy.

The TRICARE Formulary is a list of generic and brand-name prescription drugs covered by TRICARE. You can search the TRICARE Formulary to:
- See how much it costs and where you can get it filled
- See if your prescription needs prior authorization
- Look up the medical necessity criteria
- Get the prior authorization and medical necessity forms for your prescription
